These wedding pictures by Daniel Villiers are just splendid.

View all 13 of them in this forum post.

Some might think they’re a little overly saturated, but I think they’re just perfect given the setting and the occasion.

Really shows what kind of photos you can take with the D80 given the right capture and post-editing skills.

About the only thing I’d like to add is that the 50mm f/1.8 might be “softer” at f1/.8 or f/2 than at f/4 or even f/8, but that is still more than sharp enough for portraiture … see this gallery for example, where most were shot at f/2.

Interesting is the feedback from some posters who think the images are too saturated. For me though, the colours are just fantastic. Rob shot the images in Vivid mode; for those who’d like a little less saturation, just set the D80’s image optimization parameter to Normal.

The D200 has a similar feature, and this sets the latest Nikon digital SLR cameras apart from many other competing brands – Vivid, or more Vivid options produce really punchy images which are worlds apart from the Normal setting.

This caters for both types of photographers, those who like snappy pictures straight from the camera, and those who prefer a more neutral image to work with.

I realize it’s a little too early to expect pro-level D80 sports pictures so soon after the camera’s launch, but here’s a noteworthy football image to link up to.

Chris is still pretty new in the world of DSLR photography, so it’s a very good image considering that fact. Managing to get a sharp image of a sprinting athlete in somewhat dull lighting conditions without the use of a professional-grade lens is also to be commended.

Having used a D200 before (not mine, my brother-in-law’s) and playing around with the optimization modes, I found myself liking the More Vivid setting a lot, especially when shooting nature and landscape photos. Vivid mode is a gentler version, for those who don’t prefer their images to be so saturated and contrasty.

It’s good to see the Nikon D80’s color performance shine in the Vivid mode too.
